The story of Joseph is not the story of God performing sudden miracles. The story of Joseph is the story of one man stubbornly holding on to something from childhood.
The story is Joseph’s persistence. The seven years of plenty and seven years of famine were also not God’s direct doing. Those cycles have always occurred in every time and culture. They are the result of our actions and our interaction with nature. They are God’s doing in the sense that he established process and relationship and the interconnectedness of all things. But a clear-headed look at the world does not allow a person to talk about sudden, supernatural miracles.
