The Bible as practical

If the Bible is practical then the commands and promises therein are practical.

The command, “Honor your father and mother”, is stated as though it were a choice. Simply a choice. And if it is wholly, or even partially, a choice, then the promise that accompanies it is practical:

“So that your life may be long.”

Could it simply be that bitterness, selfishness, resentment, and pride all shorten your life? Could it be that there is nothing supernatural about it?
